Parkstrology 101 by Park Lore

Updated: Jul 21, 2021

A little known fact about me is that I love astrology. I find it fascinating and think that it rings true a great deal of the time. So when I came across Park Lore’s Parkstrology 101, I was naturally curious, and clicked it. This article linked up the 12 parks across the world with the 12 signs of the zodiac. Surprisingly, as I read the zodiac description, I guessed the park with which it was aligned with reasonable accuracy. So let’s jump into it and see if you agree with the article’s choices.

Starting with the Fire Signs:

FIRE SIGNS are high-energy, unpredictable, and unafraid of chaos. Just like people with fire signs, fire parks think mythologically; they're defined by evolution and committed to whatever's new and next!

  • ARIES (March 21 - April 19)

– youngest sign of the Zodiac

– yearns for adventure

– craves fresh beginnings

– unaware of others' opinions

– impatient, energetic, easily bored

– defined by its need for a goal

Obviously, it is Hong Kong Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the younger parks, still finding its way but still an enjoyable experience for the whole family. It lends a hand to becoming just like its bigger sisters across the world, starting with the Mystic Manor, listed as a Modern Marvel on Park Lore, guiding the way towards the future.

  • LEO (July 23 - August 22)

– filled with bravado and bluster, but...

– secretly care a lot what others think

– fiery idealism and extravagance

– horizon-chasers with much to learn

– defined by the need to leave a legacy

They picked Shanghai Disneyland for this one. There is a level of grandeur that the baby of the family is living up to: showing its pride with a shake of its glittery new mane.

  • SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)

– most mature of fire signs

– revels in the journey

– constantly moving...

– constantly getting what they want...

– constantly growing tired of it!

– defined by a grand vision that never fully manifests

Sagittarius’ constant desire to keep moving forward is paired with Disney California Adventure. The steady reimagining of the park is right in line with the journey to be a better park, with the vision never fully realized before moving on.

The Earth Signs:

EARTH SIGNS are deeply connected to the physical, not so enamored with "dreams" and "magic." Earth parks may appear unimaginative, but they don't lack vision – they're just focused on reality! Whereas some parks make magic real, “Earth” parks make reality magical.

  • TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

– youngest earth sign

– craves serenity and prefers things to stay the same

– simple and uncomplicated

– act only when they're certain it'll pay off

– defined by eras; "before" and "after" a change

The artist formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is combining reality, timelessness and a lack of change to create an experience that never needs to be updated, unless it’s a sure-fire hit.

  • VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

– all about synthesis and harmony

– filled with integrity

– seek control over randomness

– keenly aware of the world's harshest realities

– defined by incredible sensitivity

Harmony, integrity and harsh reality is the very epitome of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating life of nature, animals and the humanity surrounding it. Throw in the never built Possibilityland: Beastly Kingdom and the Modern Marvels of Expedition Everest and Pandora - The World of Avatar created that suspension of disbelief in the otherwise grounded park.

  • CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)

– most mature earth sign

– symbolized by dichotomous fish-goat

– equal parts wisdom and ambition

– bring impossible parts together

– play "the long game"

– defined by "duty" to make the world better

Naturally, the only park to check both boxes of ambition and wisdom would be EPCOT. Combining the concepts of FutureWorld with the cultures of the World Showcase, nothing else combines the best of both worlds. With the continuous reimagining, EPCOT has definitely been in it for the long run and continues to seek the best for the world.

The Air Signs:

AIR SIGNS are filled with wonder. They are big picture people who love to see how things work. They are logical, analyzing patterns more than aesthetic details. Air parks may feel cold or "corporate," but are beautiful in their refined, logical intelligence and strategy.

  • GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)

– "everyone is interesting to a Gemini"

– most "zoomed in" to detail & logistics of air signs

– great mimics; sum of those they know

– interpreters / translators of good ideas

– defined by being "jack of all trades"

Tokyo Disneyland is infamous for their brilliance in copying the best from Disneyland and Magic Kingdom to best suit the needs of the park and park guests. Their translation from the American parks to their own was nothing sort of ideal.

  • LIBRA (September 23 – October 22)

– equal parts intellect and emotion; "mid-zoom"

– value relationships above all else

– tend to measure themselves against others

– shy away from negative emotions

– defined by escapism from reality

Where does Disney best combine romance and intellectual operations? Walt Disney World’s own Magic Kingdom, of course. Considered the “corporate” version of its big sister, Disneyland Anaheim, its classic Air sign: taking the best of and making itself more likeable. No other place better builds relationships on the basis of intellect and emotion.

  • AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)

– most "zoomed out" of air signs

– idealized, hazy, big picture view

– value logic, but also resist structure or rules

– defined by problem-solving clash of intellect and emotion and "flashes of genius" that result

Only Aquarius could skillfully balance the dichotomy of staying true to the Disneyland model while adapting it to a completely different culture. The flashes of brilliance(namely Modern Marvels of Phantom Manor and Space Mountain: De la Terre á la Lune) held down by the lack of emotional calculation after the park’s initial rejection by local culture.

The Water Signs:

WATER SIGNS are primitive; they are ruled by emotion. Unlike earth signs, they see reality as blurry and subjective. Water takes the shape of the container it's poured into. These parks are complex. They follow their instincts and develop deep beauty, but over a lifetime.

  • CANCER (June 21 – July 22)

– least practiced water sign

– find comfort & protection in familiarity

– undergo periods of growth, then recede into their "shell"

– can be emotional hoarders, afraid to let go

– defined by cycle of creation and withdrawal

This sign was landed with Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris, and not because it had nowhere else to go. This park was once a Declassified Disaster but it is now a park awash with bursts of creative energy, attempting to put the past behind them.

  • SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21)

– mysterious and enigmatic, seen as loners, but...

– have intense, specialized relationships

– feeling & emotion >> Fire’s energy, Earth’s realism, or Air’s logic

– defined by "chapters" of life, with fresh starts between

The chapters of Disneyland are the perfect example of Scorpio personality. The feelings and emotions put into each part of the park give the park a unique experience start to finish.

  • PISCES (February 19 – March 20)

– final sign of Zodiac, developed over lifetimes

– mystic, in tune with greater world

– pursue what others discard

– intensely emotional, romantic, and empathetic

– see into other worlds and seek to share them

And finally that leaves Tokyo DisneySea, a place that is beyond anything you could dream. Romantic and adventurous, this park is ultra-ambitious and off-the-scale epic in size and content. Each land is a unique and special experience, this park is out of this world.

As a Sagittarius, I cannot agree more with their choice of DCA. It is constantly being refreshed and renewed, open to new ideas and new stories. It has a tendency to start things that it cannot finish and is ever thrilled for the next stage of the journey. It is slightly awkward to think of the parks with living, breathing personalities but if you look at their rich history and immersive culture, you can see everything I have talked about and so much more.

So completely impressed by what I have seen in this article, I am off to read more about the Lost Legends, Modern Marvels, Declassified Disasters, and never built Possibilitylands. Thanks for reading and as always, see you in the parks!

All the love, Chelsea
