I thought it would be a good idea to show you the value of a Disney Vacation by showing the comparison between a week long vacation at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and a Disney Cruise Line. Obvious amenities you expect from a Disney vacation: Character meet and greets, a nice hotel with a pool, good food and great service. Well none of these options will fall short of this!
Disneyland and Walt Disney World both offer packages to make your stay as complete and as simple as possible. Disneyland, however, does not offer dining packages and, as everyone knows, food can add up quickly! Dining packages are currently unavailable at the Walt Disney World. I started with bottom of the barrel prices, because families usually can't afford more!
We'll start with Disneyland Resort.
Right now, the booking system does not allow you to book a vacation package due to the COVID closure. You also cannot book a hotel out in 2021 because we do not know when the resort will be able to reopen. However, doing just rough calculations based on prices and such, from Nov 15 to Nov 21st of this year, I have come up with this:
Staying in Paradise Pier Hotel, Standard View: $2267
Recreation: movie showing and the Paradise Theater movie showings, get up and go powerwalks at 6am for the adults, fireworks and world of color viewing, Disneyland trivia challenges
Amenities: in-room celebrations, merchandise delivery from the park to your room, free wifi, dry cleaning and laundry services, as well as room amenities like a coffeemaker, satellite TV, a mini-fridge and a shower/tub combo.
Dining: the hotel offers plenty of options to choose from, as well as all of Downtown Disney but all out of pocket.
5 day, one park per day: (2 adults x $360) + (2 children x $340) = $1400
Total for hotel and tickets: $3667, then you have to buy food and souvenirs.
Next, Walt Disney World.
They are a little more flexible. For a family of 4, staying from March 28th, 2021 to April 3rd, 2021, there are a lot of hotels available but the most affordable was the Art of Animation Resort.
Recreation: movies under the stars, jogging trail, pixel play arcade and bass fishing in the nearby marina
Amenities: resort transportation, free wifi, child care services, laundry and dry cleaning services, mail service and the same merchandise delivery service from Disneyland as well as room amenities like a microwave(suite) and coffeemaker, kitchenette(suite), and in-room safe. The suite also features 2 bathrooms.
Dining: there are a couple of resort options to choose from. A regular dining package usually covers one table-service meal, one quick-service meal, two snacks and a refillable resort mug per each night's stay.
Staying in the Art of Animation Resort, Family Suite AND
7 day, one park per day: (2 adults, (1) 12 year old, (1) 3 year old): $6644.38
And you still have to pay for food and souvenirs.
Staying in the Art of Animation Resort, Little Mermaid Standard Room AND
7 day, one park per day: (2 adults, (1) 12 year old, (1) 3 year old): $4416.88
And you still have to pay for food and souvenirs.
Finally, the Disney Cruise Line.
The list of amenities is a mile long.
Recreation: Broadway-quality shows, deck parties, fireworks at sea, character meetings, movie screenings, outdoor activities like mini-golf, basketball, shuffleboard, and ping pong, as well as pay-to-play activities like The Royal Court Tea Party for ages 3-12, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the Pirate's League for fun dress-up adventures for the kiddos.
Amenities: spacious staterooms with sitting area and extra storage, split bathrooms, TV with in-room movies, fridge and safe as well as pools and pay-to-play amenities like free wifi, gratuities, ground transfers, and air travel.
Dining: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included, as well as 24-hour access to snacks, coffee, tea and soda and 24-hour room service. There is an adult-exclusive option for dining as well as access to alcohol but they cost extra.
Unique features: kids and teens clubs like Oceaneer Club/Lab(ages 3-12), the Edge(ages 11-14) and the Vibe(ages 14-17) as well as an adult only nightclub and lounge. There is a "it's a small world" nursery and childcare for ages 6mo to 3 years, and a spa/salon for the adults, both additional costs.
IN ADDITION TO THESE: Disney has its very own island with its own amenities. A family beach and an adults only beach. Waterslides and splash zones. Complimentary Island Gear includes beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas and hammocks. Entertainment includes live music, character meetings, and kids and teen clubs on the island. There are also fitness options like walking paths, the Castaway Cay 5K and adult-only yoga, which you will need to work off the barbeque lunch buffet and all the complimentary soft serve ice cream. You can also pay for snorkel gear, floats, rafts, bike rentals, Port Adventures on island, and alcohol.
Now for the prices! You might be surprised at the range of options.
