As usual for Disney, Disneyland Resort is hitting the ground running by talks of resort expansion! OC Register brought us an update on the new plans meant to happen over the next couple decades. Disneyland has been expanding and growing since opening day in 1955. Again, Disney is asking the city to work with them in the expansion of the resort, flexing the plans approved in the 1990s to add in several new elements on the western and eastern edges of the Disneyland Resort.

Some of the changes they are talking about are:
West-side: Immersive Theme Park. A theme park woven amid the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier hotel, to be banded by Katella Avenue, Walnut Street, Magic Way and Disneyland Drive. Considering this more of an expansion then a "third gate", the focus is on a central mountain surrounded by water. There also appears to be attractions similar to Autopia, and Dumbo. It will connect with Downtown Disney at the derelict AMC and ESPN Zone.
Eastside: Disney Entertainment Destination. Taking over the Toy Story parking lot, the site would "bring together theme park experiences, hotels, retail, dining, and entertainment." This location has been the target of a possible "third-gate" but we are not sure that this is what it is. Near the corner of Katella Avenue and Haster Street, there is a parking structure, low-rise hotel, and lagoon surrounded by shops.

So begins a long discussion back and forth between Anaheim and Disney leaders. This is expected to take at least two years, so don't get your hopes up that we will have any real information for a good while. While the city is receptive to rezoning the area around Disneyland Resort, Anaheim has shut Disney down in the past, namely the hotel project by which we lost the Rainforest Cafe. The mayor recognizes the importance of Disneyland to the economy of Anaheim and is hoping to maximize on the resource.
According to the presentation of DisneylandForward, there were many ideas thrown out about what they might do with the millions of square feet of theme park and hotel space that has already been approved. Ideas from around the world made it into this presentation: Tangled, Frozen, Toy Story, Zootopia and Peter Pan themed lands, the TRON lightcycle coaster, and the Disneytown retail district/Disney Springs shopping district.
While nothing is set in stone, the idea has merit. We are excited to bring you any new and breaking news about Disneyland Resort, so as always stay tuned!
