We continue to grasp at any drip of information that can be provided us by Disney and the latest of which is the expectations of what is to come. Chief Financial Officer, Christine McCarthy, expects Disneyland to be closed at minimum through the end of the financial quarter, which ends at the end of March. This is, of course, a best case scenario and, therefore, highly unlikely. According to Governor Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, larger theme parks are allowed to reopen their gates when their county reaches the yellow or the fourth and least restrictive tier. Currently, Orange County, home to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm, is in the purple or the first and most restrictive tier.
Other opening dates that have been officially announced include Disneyland Paris, which is expected to open April 2nd, and Hong Kong Disneyland, expected to open February 18th.
Obviously, a big concern for many Guests is the rules about face coverings and social distancing in the parks. Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, says that he expects that face coverings and social distancing will continue through the end of this year(2021). However, he doesn’t expect that these practices to continue into 2022.
Just a refresher, the current standards for facial coverings are as follows:
Face coverings are required of all Cast Members and Guests over the age of 2, even if they are vaccinated
Guests should bring their own facial coverings abd they are to be worn at all times, except when swimming or actively eating. When actively eating or drinking, you must be stationary and practicing social distancing.
An appropriate face covering is defined as follows:
Two or more layers of breathable material
It must cover the nose and secure under the chin
It must fit snugly but comfortably
It must be secured with ties or ear loops to allow the person to be hands-free
Not appropriate: neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas or coverings with valves, mesh material or holes of any kind
As always, stay tuned for the latest in Disney news and updates.
