We are all waiting impatiently for the return of normalcy in life. We have waited impatiently for 412 days to see our beloved Disneyland reopen its gates. As we slowly return to the park we know and love, every day we have something new and happy to look forward to. Here's the latest in park renovation and reopening.
Disney's California Adventure is getting constant attention as the star of the Touch of Disney event and then the anticipation of the coming themed land, Avenger Campus. We continue to watch in rapture for the next step down the line. Some steps taken more recently include:
The reopening of Soarin' Over the World in Grizzly Peak Airfield. The queue was primarily outdoors allowing a quick trip into the hangar. The queue was short and quick moving, and the final boarding queue was also still socially distanced. Only two parties were allowed per each hang-glider and the booster seats had their own plexiglass dividers.
Disney has announced the Legacy Passholder Exclusive "Alfresco Tasting Terrace." Starting May 20th and for a limited time only, there will be appetizers and a variety of specialty drinks, only for the previous passholders. While there are not much detail as to what they will be offering and such, when they were previously opened, guests could expect the following items: cocktails of the inspiration of the park's history, as well as beer and the Disney Family of wines; and dishes that could only be paired with fine wine such as meatball marinara, flatbreads and cheese boards.
We have had our first official look at the costumes for the Avengers Campus Cast Members. I am thoroughly impressed and very excited to see them in person!! See the new duds here.
Everyone's favorite water and light show, World of Color, is getting an adjustment after the lagoon sat stagnant for over a year. The projector enclosures have rotted out and are being demolished, and the blue rooftops have been seen in the backstage area, hopefully waiting to be reused.
Also breaking news in Downtown Disney are the following refreshes and renovations.
Downtown Disney parking has installed and opened self-pay parking machines. Validation for these new self-pay machines will require a special digital validation from locations in Downtown Disney. (If you have to have your ticket manually stamped, you will still need to see a cast member as you leave the Simba lot.) These machines will allow you to pay ahead of time so all you have to do is insert your ticket and be on your way. Parking costs will return as follows: $10 for the first hour, validations begin after the first hour. You can receive an additional 3 hours of same-day parking by making a $20 purchase at any Downtown Disney location, or an additional 5 hours of same-day parking with validation from a Downtown Disney table-service restaurant.
Slightly related, Paradise Pier will be accepting reservations as soon as May 6th, 2021 for dates on or after June 15th, 2021! Because there will not be any food or beverage service at this hotel upon reopening, Downtown Disney will be welcoming the business of feeding you and your Cast Members.
In addition to the Downtown Disney District restaurants, you will find that, after May 28th, the Grand Californian is reopening its doors to non-hotel guests, as well as reopening the well-loved and sought-after Storyteller Cafe and Napa Rose. While there are not reservations available at the moment, definitely keep your eye open if you are interested in dining at these locations!
