Newsom in "no hurry" to reopen DLR

We have heard that the governor is going to "let science and data make [the reopening time frame] determination" but now we are seeing the blatant disregard for such knowledge and information. On Wednesday, Newsom said that theme parks will not be opening anytime soon, making it sound like he has made up his mind regardless of the data on hand. We have heard from the medical authorities surrounding Disneyland and they are all in favor of the reopening.

Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, has stated that as soon as the state government gives us a date and guideline, they are "ready to open."

Ken Potrock, President of the Disneyland Resort, has said they have proved their ability to operate safely through their other Parks as well as Downtown Disney(open since July).

The California Attractions and Parks Association has also drawn attention to the other successful open parks and that California's theme parks are just as ready as their counterparts.

The Orange County Health Care Agency has stated the Disneyland Resort should reopen at 25% capacity when the county moves into the "moderate" tier of the state's Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Dr Pamela Hymel, Chief Medical Officer for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, has clapped back with a statement that essentially says that Disney has done all in their power to make the park safe for reopening and that the other Disney Parks should be enough evidence to prove their practices are in good working order.

As of today, Orange County has allowed the following businesses to resume activities:

Aquariums

Banks

Bookstores

Campgrounds

Car washes

Child Care

Convenience Stores

Dance and Yoga Studios

Day Camps

Door-to-door sales and services

Family Entertainment Services

Government Offices

Gyms

Hotels

Libraries

Movie Theaters

Museums

Outdoor Playgrounds

Outdoor Pools

Personal Care Services

Repair Shops

Restaurants for Dine-In

Retail Stores

Schools

Shopping Malls

Zoos

So what is the difference between some of these locations and theme parks? Absolutely nothing. Orange County and the City of Anaheim are losing money and the citizens are losing their livelihoods as the governor refuses to see reason. Disneyland employs over 80,000 people and the theme parks bring in over 38 million visitors annually. That is a LOT of money not transferring hands. On September 22, Orange County met the criteria for moving into Tier 3 of the reopening process and should be able to move down to the less restrictive tier between now and mid-October. Regardless of the movement in Tier system, they have not been given any guidelines besides the overly restrictive guidelines that were leaked late last month.Walt Disney World was allowed to resume "normal operations" when their county moved into Tier 3 of reopening, so this begs the question: What's the plan, Governor Newsom?
