In a webinar held by Disneyland Resort, they have answered some questions as to the nature of what will be coming.
At this time, Orange County is expecting to be moved into the Yellow Tier on Wednesday, May 19th. This means the capacity limits can increase from the current 25% to 35%. According to the recent announcement by Governor Gavin Newsom, the state of California should be moving toward normal operation on June 15th. Per the CDC, it is permitted that fully vaccinated individuals are not required to be masked or keep the social distancing. After June 15th, most outdoor mask mandates will be lifted, subject to individual businesses and special cases. It is to be expected that masks will still be worn indoors and at larger events that allow international guests or are otherwise dense in nature of population.
Disneyland Resort is not asking the city of Anaheim for anything but flexibility. Disney already owns a great deal of land in which they intend to build. They are still in the process of formulating what they want to do versus what they are allowed. They do not expect to have a meeting with the City Council with a solid plan until at least 2023.
Some of the expected construction ideas include the expansion of both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure to the west over Disneyland Drive. Other ideas include the building of a Parking Structure on the Pumbaa parking lot, a Fantasy inspired section for the park, and a shopping district of sorts that will cater to Disneyland guests, Anaheim conventioneers and residents of the city of Anaheim. To the west, the expansions of the theme parks is where the Fantasy inspired land would be located, including a new hotel immersed in the land. An example of the idea would be Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea, a land celebrating characters like Queen Elsa, and Anna in the Kingdom of Arendelle from Disney’s Frozen, Rapunzel from Corona from Disney’s Tangled, and Peter Pan in Neverland, as well as Tinkerbell in Pixie Hollow, from Disney’s Peter Pan. Over on the east, the area on the Toy Story parking lot is advertised to be changed into a “new kind of Disney entertainment” without much other detail given. You could expect shopping, dining and possibly hotel and entertainment concepts. An example of what they are thinking is Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs. This is a bar in the shopping district in Florida that is themed after Indiana Jones(Jock Lindsey is the pilot from the said francise). Set on the waterfront, the location is steeped in movie references and delicious food and drink options. It would be awesome to have such things here at the Disneyland Resort!!!
Among the talks in the webinar, the resort is hoping to include Anaheim’s population in the building and staffing of this industrious process that they expect to take the next 40 years to accomplish. Disneyland prides itself on its inclusion in the community. The Resort is responsible for $8.5 billion in economic impact, as well as over 78,000 jobs. They are also known to donate $20 million in support to nonprofit organizations and $28 million to Anaheim’s schools. It’s safe to assume that they do, in fact, have the city’s best interests in mind as they begin to formulate this expansion.
I’m excited to see what they come up with regarding a park expansion, and Disney immersive locations! What are you excited for comment below??
Thanks for reading and as always, stay tuned for information as it comes in! See ya in the parks!
